Hello and welcome. This is an article that is certainly GREATLY needed. At the very least I believe that it is. I started wearing make-up around age 14 and when I began, it absolutely was an unacceptable shade for my complexion. So! I am just trying to speak out for those Beautiful, Brown-Skinned Black Women who have as hard a time finding makeup when i do. So, i want to provide you with a little background on me.
Firstly, Black is beautiful, along with the darker the berry the sweeter the juice! With that being said, at 14 I found myself a little blackberry without a clue. Initially when i first started wearing make-up it had been just lipstick and yes it began being my mom’s Fashion Fair. My mother who seems to be light-skinned and it has a daughter who is dark-skinned. Of course her lipstick did NOT match in any way. I was even referred to as a dark-skinned Ronald McDonald with a previous ex-boyfriend!
So, I really believe that us brown-skinned and dark-skinned women need some extra help as it is more difficult for all of us to locate make-up that suits in drugstores, or makeup for dark skin that may be affordable. Plus Cosmo and Glamour and all of them be speaking about great make-up for spring, but uh, hello have you forget black girls like makeup for spring too? So, I feel your pain. I am a self-appointed makeup aficionado, and want to offer my experiences as well as some goods that are FABO and not a great deal fabo. So… without further ado, let’s begin!
JUST AN FYI: They are all make-ups i have gotten to utilize through experimentation and so i am sharing from EXPERIENCE!
FACE: I fight to find the best foundation, and full-coverage makeup which is affordable so below are a few wonderful finds i have realized that are both.
1-Cover Girl Queen Collection Natural Hue Liquid Foundation- Spicy Brown
PROS- it can be good at matching skin color that have yellow or red undertones, spreads easily and if you just need moderate coverage provides you with an excellent bang for your buck. It is actually affordable ranging about 6-8 bucks, and you may think it is generally in most drugstores, and grocery stores.
CONS- For those who have dark spots and blemishes, this will NOT provide you the policy you will need! Not close, okay? It also wears off quickly so you would need to reapply often. The bottle is upside down after some spout, when you pour out a lot of, you cannot use it during the bottle as well as in these periods of financial meltdown er’ little counts am I right ladies?!
Also, if you have troubles matching your epidermis tone as you have BOTH yellow and red, or maybe blue and red undertones, this collection might not be for you as there is not just a vast selection to select from, so you might should go forward. Other shades that are perfect for brown-skinned to dark-skinned gals, and several people fellas! Rich Mink, Sheer Espresso, and True Ebony.
2- Cover Girl Queen Collection Natural Hue Compact Foundation
PROS-It will provide you with more coverage compared to Liquid Foundation. That’s it. That’s about all I can consider.
CONS-Unfortunately, it rubs off QUITE quickly. It is also tinted slightly differently compared to liquid foundation therefore i thought it was harder to match my complexion. Also, if it was warm outside it wipes RIGHT off, and revealed every blemish in my face! LOL, furthermore, it wipes off on your own clothes, stains your hands, the whole bit. It’s moderately priced as well, so if you would like look nice for a date during the night, going somewhere cool, it’s a fast fix, however i wouldn’t wear it to the club, or possibly a carnival, anywhere which will be warm, or sweaty. It also comes in a similar.
3- Black Opal True Color Liquid Foundation – Black Walnut
PROS-Awesome Coverage. There is quite a bit in the bottle so that it may last you a serious while. It is really an upright standing bottle with a generous opening, so when you pour out a lot of, it won’t be too difficult to have into the bottle, in order to SAVE, SAVE, SAVE! I wear foundation each day, sometimes wash my face and re-apply if heading out that night, and that bottle lasts me regarding a good 2 months or so. You will recognize that it ranges from about 8-12 bucks… according to where you live. So it is an incredible buy.
CONS- For those who have combination to oily skin, WEAR POWDER, and keep it with you! Over these upcoming warm to hot days, you could look really greasy in the face. But if you continue Blotters with you, or powders, you need to be okay. Also, it might just be that MY skin changes, therefore if that is the case disregard, having said that i find that after i visit buy a fresh one, the shade may not match just like the previous one, so be mindful of that.
Another con is the fact that Black Opal Products may be a little harder to locate in stores than other products that I mention. I don’t know if it’s that they’re not too popular, or what, but whenever I look I always locate them in either Rite-Aid, or CVS. So, happy hunting. Other colors great for brown-skinned girls… Carob, Suede Mocha, and Ebony Brown….. As well as for you borderline caramel to brown-skin girls, Hazelnut!
4-Maybelline Pure Make-Up (Shine Free Foundation with H2O) – Cocoa (Dark 3)
PROS- Very inexpensive, simple to find. Situated in Most drugstores, supermarkets, Wal-Mart. Costs range about 5.99-10 bucks, according to your region. Full coverage, doesn’t clog your pores, spreads easily.
CONS-Upside-down tube, so you will have to be exact about how precisely much is required to your face, cause if you use too much… it is going to get wasted. Limited colors for darker skin tones. They simply have THREE shades for ladies of the color. Dark 1- Tan, Dark 2- Caramel, and Dark 3-Cocoa. We have used the Cocoa. It is actually way too dark for my skin-tone.
However, the Caramel Dark 2 is too light. So, if you are pressed for money and don’t have enough cash to experiment, I wouldn’t waste my time with this product. They may have FIVE shades devoted to light, FOUR for medium and simply three for people darkies??!!! Leave this product alone, unless you eventually match EXACTLY. Best of luck evading the lady who attempts to watch you whenever you try to sample the merchandise within the store!
5- Black Radiance Color Perfect Oil Free Liquid Makeup- Cocoa Bean
PROS-Very affordable! VERY! Somewhat accessible. Costs about 5.99-10 bucks, and you could discover it in many Beauty Supply stores, CVS carries it. Spreads evenly, good coverage, get a great deal for your personal buck. Also, comes in a jar with the open spout, when you have a lot of, you are able to input it back there. Provides you with a nice matte finish.
CONS- Cocoa Bean will not match my skin! Having Said That I also have strange undertones occurring with my skin, so that could be why it is so hard to suit. Once you apply this makeup it dries a different color, it’s crazy. There’s this… weird… applicator thingy, unsure how to deal with it, however it just got inside my way basically. Says it will work for all kinds of skin, however i have very sensitive skin on my own face, and that i discovered that within 30 mins my face was suffocating and that i needed to wash it off. Other shades to test are Brownie and Mocha Honey.
6- L’Oreal True Match Super Blendable Makeup- Nut Brown
PROS-Oh my goodness you guys this makeup was awesome! Spread really, fantastic! Matches wonderfully for a yellow undertone. Truly does a brown-skinned girl justice. Light, so your skin can breathe. Good coverage for girls with blemishes. Pretty simple to find, and i also state that with hesitance, because 7 times from 10 they will carry all Although the shades for brown-skinned. Um, I discover them at Wal-Mart, Walgreens..and that’s basically it.
CONS- This system has SPF and i also am VERY allergic to sun block thus it broke me out something terrible. Form of difficult to get. It’s a tad bit more expensive compared to previous products mentioned. MMM, I would say about 10.99 and up. You might be able to discover it on sale. Also, there may be not a great deal within the bottle, so use sparingly when you can. Other shades to test…. Soft Sable and Cocoa.
7- Revlon Color Stay Makeup with Soft Flex – Mahogany
PROS- Pretty easy to find generally in most drugstores. Colors are great for brown-skinned girls. Kind of affordable. Just a little in the high end but about 9.99-12.99 just for this product. The policy is okay… Not the ideal, but should you be looking for light to moderate coverage this is a great product.
CONS- Now, I found that Mahogany did not match my undertones that great. I know…. Again with the undertones. It dried and made my skin look a bit grayish and chalky. There may be 58deyypky a real good selection to choose from for darker skin tones. Has SPF6, bad for me, but good for anybody who is just not allergic. Also, again, if you don’t possess the undertone problem…. Other shades to use… Cappuccino and Mocha.
And then finally but Not necessarily least…
8- Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse – Cocoa (Dark 3)
PROS- OH MY GOSH…… loving this device!! (sing song voice) this is actually the current comprise I am using now! It def does precisely what the commercial says. It covers your pores, and gives you a great finish! Maximum coverage! Need NO concealer, well… maybe slightly, having said that i don’t use any. It is very affordable, from about 7-10 bucks. I discovered it right with the Kroger supermarket, so it needs to be offered at most pharmacies. It possesses a nifty little nozzle that squirts out and it’s really convenient. Also, it is whipped feeling, and that i apply with my fingers.
It merely glides directly on, and begins covering my pores and brown spots, along with its not very heavy, I don’t have to wear a bunch. The best also comes off, so if I over-squirt, I can use it right back in the bottle. There’s lots from the bottle, and you also don’t need to use a whole lot for coverage. I do believe I got this bottle per month ago and i also still need a tad bit more than half a bottle left. It’s great! I like it. Hopefully this is the end from the road for me, but usually it isn’t!
